Return Home
In Collaboration with Renata Cruz - LaraReturn Home calls us to rediscover home as the base to understand oneself.
It is through self discovery that one may better perform in the multiple spheres of everyday life. Combining a shotgun house, a courtyard and an elevated terrace, this urban unit creates fluidity between interior and exterior spaces. The uninterrupted hallway aids to connect this linear floor plan and provide freedom of choice to engage and disengage between spaces ranging from public performance rooms at the front to natural and living spaces at the rear.
Unveiled as a generator of identity, this unit emerges as an incubator for the self; a place to try new things and a safe ground for experimentation and collaboration. Rooms become stages where we part-take in theater and use our minds and bodies to express and connect. This multiplicity of curated environments sets this living structure as a performative vessel that potentiates varying degrees of action and communication via quotidian acts.
Home becomes the utmost declaration of ownership within an evolving culture of temporary membership and ultimately seeks to re-establish the user’s creative autonomy to tailor spaces which can provide the safety necessary to grow, discover and dream.
